Anna Makinda chosen as the first chairwoman of the Tanzanian parliament

Anna Makinda, a long serving member of the parliament was elected as the first chairwoman of the parliament. Makinda, who represents the leading CCM party, got 265 out of 327 votes cast, thus receiving support from the opposition as well. Mabere Marando, the candidate of the main opposition party, Chadema, got only 53 votes despite of the fact that Chadema currently holds 82 seats in the parliament.
