Demo Finland and the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Union Election Commission (UEC) of Myanmar on Tuesday September 26th 2017 in Helsinki, Finland.
The occassion signified the continuation of the fruitful partnership which started in 2015, under which NIMD and Demo Finland run the Myanmar School of Politics (MySoP) programme. MySoP works with election commission officials and politicians of over 30 political parties in Myanmar’s eastern most 5 states and region. By means of training and multiparty dialogue programmes, MySoP exchanges the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to be effective politicians, a key ingredient to help Myanmar’s nascent multiparty democracy succeed.
With the renewed MoU, NIMD and Demo Finland are looking forward to working with the UEC of Myanmar during the leadup to Myanmar’s 2020 national parliamentary elections, and beyond.
Signing the renewed MoU are from left to right: Maaike van der Werf [Asia Regional Programme Manager, NIMD], U Tin Tun [Director General, UEC], Anu Juvonen [Executive Director, Demo Finland]. On the back the Chairman of the UEC, Mr. U Hla Thein and Commissioner of the UEC, Mr. U Than Htay.
