Gary Klaukka has been appointed as Demo Finland’s Acting Executive Director as of 10 May 2021. Klaukka has extensive experience on working with democracy issues and political parties, as he has previously worked in the field of international democracy support at International IDEA, the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and the National Democratic Institute. His most recent assignment at NDI was based in Myanmar where Demo Finland has also worked since 2014. Klaukka also has experience in working in politics in the UK.
“It is a great honour to be appointed as the Acting Executive Director of Demo Finland – an organisation I have long admired”, says Klaukka.
“Democracy development work is particularly vital as the state of many democracies worldwide remains precarious. Demo Finland has an ever stronger role to play in supporting democracies and in showcasing best practice from political parties in Finland. I hope to further strengthen Demo Finland’s role internationally – and within Finland – and guide it to continued success”, Klaukka adds.
